Hector Santiago is a left handed pitcher that became part of the Los Angeles Angels 5-man starting rotation this past offseason. He ended up in Anaheim as part of a 3 team trade on December 10, 2013 that involved the Chicago White Sox (his former team), the the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels received Tyler Skaggs along with Santiago, while the White Sox received Adam Eaton and the Diamondbacks received Mark Trumbo and two other players.

Before we get to the Q&A session of this article, I would like to send a big thank you to Hector Santiago. He is the first professional athlete we had the opportunity to speak to and he was also the first athlete I have ever had a conversation with. It was a privilege being able to speak to him and all us at AOSN are now fans of his.  He is definitely a class act and a genuine human being. It’s not very often when you find an athlete that is willing to interact with fans. I would suggest you follow the 26-year old left-hander on Twitter @HecSantiago53.

Alexandro: Hector, how was the transition from Chicago to the Los Angeles/Anaheim area?

Hector: It’s been an easy transition cause the guys are so friendly and really accepting.

A: What city do you enjoy the most when you are on a road trip?

H: I really like Seattle but New York would have to be my favorite because I get to go home and see my family.

A: What are your favorite ballparks to pitch in as well as your least favorite?

H: Favorite park so far is Anaheim. And Chicago has to be my least favorite just because balls fly out of there.

A: Favorite childhood baseball players and inspirations?

H: My favorite players are some lefty pitchers I looked up to Pettite, Franco, Koufax, and Seaver just to name a few.

A: What are your personal goals for this season?

H: My goals for the year would have to be out on the field every fifth day and give my team great chance to win!

A: What is your favorite meal before a game?

H: My favorite meal before game has to be fruit because it’s not too heavy.

A: As for the offseason, what is your favorite activity during your time off?

H: I love playing golf in the offseason.

A: What is your best score on the links?

H: 78 (Translates to +6 on a Par 72)

A: Now for a random question. Our MLB writer, Manny Alcala (@OsoFan), loves Disneyland. Have you visited the famed theme park since becoming and Angel? If so, how many times? Did you enjoy it?

H: Yes, I have once. It was ok…

We hope to keep in contact with Hector as the season progresses and possibly get into more depth. Once again, thanks #53!
