After an unsuccessful season-long loan spell with Manchester United, Colombian striker Radamel Falcao finds himself on loan in the Premier League once again, this time with defending champions Chelsea.

The Blues paid Monaco €4 million in order to complete the deal, and will have the option to sign him at the end of his season-long loan for around €35 million. Falcao currently earns €265,000 per week, but will be taking a substantial pay cut to join the English giants.

Falcao made 26 league appearances for the Red Devils last season, but scored just 4 goals. He spent most of the latter half of the season on the bench and disappointed United fans all around the globe with his uninspiring and lackluster play. This type of performance was unusual for the 29 year old, who scored 41 goals in 48 league appearances over a 2 year span for Portuguese side Porto, and 52 goals in 67 league appearances over 2 years for Atletico Madrid. In 2013, Falcao was sold to AS Monaco for approximately €60 million, but was hampered by injuries and played in just 20 matches for the French side before being loaned out to Man United.

This major deal tells us that Chelsea will likely be looking to sell forward Loic Remy, who has already stated that he would consider leaving Chelsea if they signed Falcao. Remy has already generated interest from multiple clubs in England and around Europe, such as West Ham, Crystal Palace, Bordeaux, and Lyon. By signing Falcao, Chelsea are reuniting him with former teammate Diego Costa, who he played with from 2011-2013 when they were both members of Spanish club Atletico Madrid. The two already have chemistry, and should create a dangerous front line for the Blues if they play anything like they did a few years ago. This is a colossal risk being taken by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, but if it pays off, Chelsea may be heading straight towards a second consecutive EPL title.
