The Toronto Blue Jays obtained relief pitcher Mark Lowe from the Seattle Mariners for 3 prospects.
Lowe was drafted by the Mariners in the 5th round of the 2004 MLB Draft and made his debut in 2006. He is in his 10th season and the Blue Jays will be his 5th team. He has a career ERA of 3.80 with 289 strikeouts in 317.1 innings pitched.
Lowe has been having an incredible season. He has given up just 4 earned runs in 36 innings while striking out 47 hitters. He has struck out 21 batters in 14 innings in July without a single walk. He is averaging less than 1 runner per inning in his last 12 games.
The Blue Jays have been aggressive in this trade season. They started with the blockbuster of the year, getting shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins from the Colorado Rockies, then they obtained David Price from the Detroit Tigers. Now they acquired one of the best set-up men in Lowe.
Tulowitzki adds to their already impressive offense and improves their defense at short, Price will be the ace of their rotation, and Hawkins and Lowe help solidify their bullpen. They are currently 2 games out of the final Wild Card spot and they are loading up for a run at it.
Lowe will be a free agent at the end of the season.
