It took 51 minutes for either side to find the back of the net. Marek Hamsik gave Napoli the lead directing a cross into the far post with an easy header.

Gonzalo Higuain increased Napolis lead in the 63rd minute with an unbelievable curling strike from just over 20 yards out, striking the post and into the net. No chance for keeper Samir Handanovic.

Inter responded 10 minutes later with a goal of their own as Xherdan Shaqiri’s low effort was intercepted by defenders, but Fredy Guarin was able to poke to Roberto Palacio who struck low again, this time into the net.

Inter were awarded a late penalty in the 87th minute as Palacio was brought down with a tug on the shoulder. Young star, Mauro Icardi, stepped up to the spot and decided to go with a Paneka which worked out well to secure at least a point.

Napoli are denied the chance to claim third and close the gap on Roma. Inter’s rally against a fine team should boost their increasing confidence for future match-up.
