Guadalajara, U de G, and Puebla. What do these three Mexican league teams have in common? They all struggle to remain in the highest level of competition that Mexico has to offer. The relegation battle continues to be close in the Liga MX and there are now two clubs in danger. Will Guadalajara, the most popular Mexican club with the most history behind them, be humiliated and become relegated? Or will U de G suffer the fate of the league newbies and be relegated after one year of playing with the big boys? The three teams at the bottom of the relegation table sit as follows:

16.) Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas):

Chivas have been in danger of becoming the laughing stock of the Liga MX for the last couple of years. A mixture of terrible results and some questionable transfers had landed “El Rebano Sagrado” near the bottom of the relegation table. It was sink or swim for Guadalajara this season and it seems that the club found a life jacket in newly appointed manager, Jose Manuel De La Torre. Since “Chepo” took over, Chivas have shown promise and the best football they have played in years. Guadalajara currently sit in third place on the league table with 6 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses. They’re points per game ratio is now 1.1237.

17.) Club Universidad de Guadalajara:

Universidad de Guadalajara, or U de G, has only been a part of the Liga MX since the Apertura 2014 season after winning the Liga De Ascenso and being promoted. As history shows, the newly promoted teams are not always the favorites to remain in the division, especially in the percentage system that the Liga MX uses to determine who stays and who goes. The pressure is now on for the Guadalajara based team who, after Sunday’s 2 – 0 loss to Pumas U.N.A.M., sits in 16th place. This season, they have accumulated 4 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses. Their points per game ratio is 1.0345.

18.) Puebla F.C.:

Puebla has the biggest uphill battle of all the clubs. In order to avoid relegation, they need to begin winning matches and racking up those points. Cuauhtemoc Blanco’s team is in a constant struggle but can’t seem to find a solid form. Puebla sit 4 places above U de G on the league table but despite sitting in 12th place this season, they sit dead last on the relegation table. If Chivas win just two more matches and Puebla loses two themselves, then Guadalajara will be in the clear and the relegation battle will be determined by U de G’s results. Either way, Puebla should not wait around for results and must improve on their 4 wins, 3 draws, 5 losses record. They sit in last on the relegation table with a ratio of 1.0309.
