After 9 seasons with the San Diego Padres, Bud Black has been relieved of his managerial duties.

Black went 649-713 in his time with the club since taking over for Bruce Bochey in 2007, who left the Padres for the San Francisco Giants. He also won NL Manager of the Year in 2010, despite missing the playoffs.

The firing of Black comes to no surprise. New Padres general manager A.J. Preller went on a spending binge this past offseason. Preller went on to trade for Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Wil Myers and Craig Kimbrel, and went on to sign James Shields to a free agent deal. With the Padres being a 32-33, the team has not been meeting expectations.

Bench coach Dave Roberts will serve as interim manager until the Padres’ front office decide who will take the team over for the rest of the season.
