After a weekend break from club matches, players returned from international duty and La Liga play kicked off Friday night. Sevilla FC and Athletic Bilbao met on Saturday night though and witnessed Sevilla take another three points to continue in fifth place and one point behind Atletico Madrid and nine points ahead of Villarreal.

Sevilla has been in a four undefeated game streak and continue that streak today when they were able to win 2-0 over Athletic Bilbao. Aleix Vidal and Carlos Bacca both contributed to their team and both players showed that they deserved to be in the first team sheet. Bacca has been in great form since joining Sevilla back in 2013 but has progressed even more this season. The colombian has netted 17 goals this season in La Liga competition, tying him with Barcelona’s Neymar and tied for third in all time scorers and Vidal was able to net in his third of the season.

Athletic Bilbao has struggled this season and are a different team without midfielder Ander Herrera, who left to Manchester United earlier this summer. Though being in a six undefeated streak, they were not able to hold Sevilla on Saturday night and will be looking to pick them selves up from this loss.

The first goal came early in the third minute thanks to a mistake by goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz. Defender Benoit Tremoulinas saw a clear pass as he crossed it to Vidal. Vidal brought the ball down with his head and saw that goalkeeper Iraizoz was way out of his area. Bacca had an opportunity to get the ball when Vidal brought down the ball with his head but instead allowed Vidal to make the run get past two defenders and the goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The next goal came in the 21 minute as we saw Bacca score in his 17 goal of the season.Carlos Bacca was able to finish off a quick build up that his teammates created in the right flank. As he got the pass inside the box, Bacca did not hesistate to take on the defender and go for goal. This made the game 2-0.

Sevilla now are in the hunt for fourth place after today’s win as Athletic Bilbao stay in eighth place and hope to somehow come back from this loss and find that winning streak they had throughout the last six matches. Carlos Bacca receives the man of the match as he was able to convert his 17 goal of the season and see himself in third place of all time scorers this season. Sevilla take on Levante on Tuesday as Athletic Bilbao take on Valencia on thursday.
