Real Madrid Wins La Decima!

What more could people ask for from a Champions League Final rather than jumping out their seats after every play. Atletico Madrid faced Real Madrid in this year’s UEFA Champions League final. It was an exciting match from both sides but the calls that were called had fans and players fuming.

Diego Godin was able to put Atletico up ahead in the 36th minute after Diego Costa was subbed off in the beginning minutes of the game. However, Atletico wasn’t able to hold onto the lead since it took an injury time equalizer from Sergio Ramos to rescue Real Madrid and force both teams into extra time. All it took for Real Madrid to win was three quick fire goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo, and Cristiano Ronaldo in extra time to give Real Madrid a 4-1 win over their city rivals in Lisbon to win the European Champions League for the 10th time. Fans have been waiting for “La Decima” to happen all season long.

Atletico have had much success this season as Coach Diego Simoene led the Rojiblancos to La Liga victory and felt confident to win the Champions League final. The early sub of Diego Costa hurt Atletico since Costa has been their main force in the attack. The back for were able to hold of the attack force of the BBC(Benzema, Bale, Cristiano) up until the 93rd minute of injury time when Sergio Ramos equalized the game. In extra time, Real Madrid showed they wanted it while Atletico looked exhausted. Los Blancos took advantage with goals by Bale, Marcelo, and Ronaldo which led them to the title of European Champions.

“This is what every footballer dreams of and it doesn’t come any bigger than that,” the Welshman told Sky Sports after his side’s triumph. Bale also began to live up to his price tag, charging through from the right before scuffing his effort wide, while a combination with Ronaldo saw another at score. Bale also managed to put Real Madrid in the lead during extra times. Goals by Marcelo and Ronaldo followed not to long after he scored his thanks to a chance Di Maria had at goal. It was deflected in the air by Courtois which gave Bale the open opportunity to header the ball into the back of the net.

Both teams deserved to be at the final as they both worked very hard to get to where they are at right now. They will be looking to strengthening their squads to prepare for next season so they can show yet again why Spain is the dominant force of Europe.
