The No.16 LSU Tigers(9-3, 5-3 SEC) are going into the Outback Bowl to face the Iowa Hawkeyes (8-4, 5-3 Big Ten) January 1, 2014

History

LSU had a season that many people, including myself, thought would have them ending at 9-3. The Tigers went undefeated at home this season, only losing on the road at Georgia 44-41, at Ole Miss 27-24 and at rivals Alabama, 38-17. They would finish the season going 2-0 with wins over Texas A&M 34-10 and Arkansas 31-27.

LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles has been coaching the team for 9 seasons, leading the team to a record of 94-24 and taking them to 2 BCS Championship’s(2007-2011). They would end up winning 1 and losing 1. All time, the Tigers are 5-3 in bowls games under Miles.

As for the Iowa Hawkeyes, many people had them missing the bowl season. The Hawkeyes started the season going 4-1, losing only to Northern Illinois the first week of the season 30-27 at home. After the 4-1 record, the Hawkeyes lost back-to-back games to Michigan State at home 26-14, and at Ohio State 34-24. They would finish the season going 4-1, including wins over rivals Nebraska 38-17 on the road, in which Iowa were big underdogs.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz has been with the Hawkeyes for 15 seasons, going 100-78 and 6-4 in bowl games. This includes going 2-1 in the Orange bowl.

These two schools last met in 2005, in which the Hawkeyes won 30-25.

Impact Players

With the LSU Tigers without starting QB Zach Mettenberger, they are going to rely on freshman Anthony Jennings. Iowa Hawkeyes will rely on their QB Jake Rudock, who has thrown for 2,281 yards and 18 touchdowns and their running back Mark Weisman, who has rushed for 938 yards and 7 touchdowns.

IOWA: 28-20
