NFL 32/32 Draft Needs: 32/32 Seattle Seahawks

0

The Seattle Seahawks are fresh off of a Super Bowl victory; but this off season they lost a lot of pieces to the superbowl formula that they seemed to have solved. The team has only six draft picks, and will have to hone in on their needs since they haven’t been very active in the free agency. The team lost a lot of depth, and just a few defensive starters in the offseason, which is a hit to the number one defense in the league. The offense had a mixed season, they were one of the top running offenses and top scoring defenses, but when it came to passing yards and total yards they were below average at best. Last year, the draft was focusing more on what they could get for the future, and this year they will actually have to see if they can find some people to start or be part of a rotation of guys.

Needs: WR, TE, OL,DE, CB

Wide Receiver: While on paper their depth doesn’t look bad, the loss of Golden Tate will have to be addressed eventually in this draft . The draft is stacked at this position, so they can afford to take a shot a receiver later on in the draft. Another reason they should get a receiver is that Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice tend to be very injury prone, and if they dont have some good quality depth, the Seahawks will not be able to improve .

Tight End: The teams in the league have gotten a lot of success using to pass catching tight ends, and this approach could be helpful to improve the last of pass offense that the Seahawks seem to have. I also think Zach Miller could use a back up, because behind him we don’t see a lot of well known guys.

Offensive Lineman: Free agency took some offensive tackles, including their starting right tackle. This might be one of the most crucial needs for them in the draft, and there is a high chance they will use one of their early picks on an offensive tackle. The offensive line also gave up over 40  sacks, and could use a good pass protector to help them deplete that number.

Defensive Lineman: The Seahawks were close to losing their starting defensive end, but ended up retaining him. With that they lost a lot of depth and important rotation guys who helped this team succeed. The team has a total of 44 sacks last season, and the loss of those three guys (Red Byrant, Chris Clemons, Clinton McDonald) had a combined total of  11.5 sacks which is a big chuck of their total. I would say they will be looking for someone earlier in the draft to help the rotation out.

Cornerback: The Seahawks have the best secondary in football, but lost one of their starting corners to free agency, and one of their high quality slot corners. While the Seahawks do have young guys who can compete to replace the gaps, grabbing a corner in the later rounds would help the stacked defense worry less at night.
