NFL 32/32 Draft Needs: 23/32 Dallas Cowboys

0

The Dallas Cowboys have not been over .500 for the past four years, which means they have not made it to the playoffs or won the division for a while now. The cowboys do have an alright offense but their defense was horrible and now have to replace one of their most consistent and star player on their defense (Demarcus Ware). They have made a few free agent moves but only seemed to get one starter in a team that needs more explosion on defense. They may have eleven pics in this draft but more than half of those pics are in the seventh round which isnt known to have a lot of players who end up as starters. The cowboys may have to look at their scouts and tell them that they need people who can start and make huge impacts for their teams this year not next year.

Needs: OL, DL, S, WR

Offensive Lineman: Last year, the Cowboys shocked in the first round when they picked an offensive lineman who wasn’t high on everyone’s board but it ended up working out for them. They may want to look at the right side at tackle, the edges are key and the Cowboys need to keep their star player Tony Romo upright. Adding someone in the 2nd or 3rd round to compete  for the starting spot can really benefit them.

Defensive Lineman: The Cowboys had their biggest losses in the defensive line by loosing Jason Hatcher and Demarcus Ware. They somewhat addressed it in free agency by picking up Henry Melton but may be looking in that first round to grab a big impact guy who can potentially fill the massive shoes of Ware. They will be looking to see someone who can dominate but may have trouble with it because this draft class doesn’t have someone who plays like Ware. But, if they see someone who can make the same type of impact, then they will be happy. If not, they will have to grab more than one to compete.

Safety: Even though Barry Church led the team in tackles, they need to add safeties that have to protect the backfield so they don’t have the fear of getting beat deep. With the transition of getting a new defensive line, next year’s safeties have to hold their coverage for a longer time. Also, when I look at the starter in both safety positions, they aren’t really big play guys and the team will be looking in the first round if they don’t find a replacement for Ware. They might get a big play safety to help upgrade this horrendous defense early.

Wide Receiver: This need is automatic but with the good depth in this class, the Cowboys may want to draft someone to either compete to be on the other side of Dez Bryant or fill in the role that Miles Austin had in this team. With the amount of late picks they have, the Cowboys may get on or two guys to compete for the same spot.
