Moustakas Plays Hero for the Royals in Game 1 vs Angels

The Kansas City Royals sure do know how to leave their fans on the edge of their seats. The Royals came away as late inning winners for the second game in a row. Both teams battled it out for 11 innings for the best of 5 series.

Alcides Escobar had an early RBI double for the Royals, ripping a hanging breaking ball down the left field line off of Jered Weaver, scoring Mike Moustakas during the Top of the 3rd.

During the bottom of the 3rd Chris Iannetta tied the game at 1-1 with his solo shot to left field (400 ft).

 

Omar Infante hit sacrifice fly to center during the Top of the 5th, Alex Gordon scored from 3rd taking the lead 2-1.

But once again the Angels answered back during the bottom of the 5th with a solo dinger to left by David Freese (389 ft).

During the bottom of the 1st Lorenzo Cain robbed an extra base hit from Kole Calhoun on the first pitch of the game. He also dove and made a sliding catch during the bottom of the 2nd stealing another base hit. Cain was not the only Royal outfielder making spectacular plays during the game. Aoki also made two web gems during the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings.

 

The game was decided off the bat of former #2 pick Mike Moustakas. He launched a solo shot to right field barely making it over the fence (374 ft).

Shoemaker (16-4, 3.04 ERA), the 28-year-old rookie will face up against Yorando Ventura (14-10, 3.20), who struggled in the sixth inning of the wild-card game, but possesses a 100 mph fastball.
