After being eliminated from the Champions League this past week, Manchester City has to focus on not dropping any more points and hope for Chelsea to make mistakes. Manchester City took on West Bromwich Albion this weekend. West Bromwich Albion are currently in 14th place on the league table, which made this the perfect opportunity for Manuel Pellegrini’s squad to re-group at home.

Things looked promising for Manchester City as early as the 2nd minute as West Bromwich lost a player in a very controversial play. Wilfried Bony intercepted a bad pass from West Bromwich defenders and was dropped as he was going on a break away against the goalkeeper. Referee Neil Swarbrick gave Gareth McAuley a red card, but the man who dropped Bony, was Craig Dawson. This is not the first time this has happened in the Premier League this season.

With one less player, West Bromwich was now forced to defend the whole game since the extremely offensive Manchester City squad continued to attack. In the 27th minute a shot by Fernando was blocked and it was Bony who won the rebound and took a powerful shot that ended in a quality finish to the upper left corner.

Thuation was not looking good for West Bromwich. It was only a matter of time before Manchester City found another goal. During a corner kick, just five minutes before the half,  Fernando picked up a lose ball that was not successfully cleared by the West Bromwich defenders and simply tapped it in.

Manchester City kept looking for more after the half. They found a shot off the woodwork on an individual play by Sergio Aguero. West Bromwich also had an opportunity from a corner kick that hit the crossbar. It was not until minute 77 when Manchester City found their last goal of the match. After a good run, Stevan Jovetic, who received the ball back from Gael Clichy, took a shot from outside the eighteen. David Silva, who was inside the box, made enough contact with the inside of his foot to change the direction of the ball just enough to make it three-nil.

Manchester City is six points behind Chelsea with one more game played. Manchester City will visit Crystal Palace after the international FIFA break, for a good opportunity to pick up three points.
