Bayern Munich edge closer to a third straight Bundesliga title after a 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Robert Lewandowski helped his chances of receiving his second golden boot in a row in his first season at Bayern after a brace to help the home team gain control. The result was put beyond doubt with a late third from Thomas Muller.

Bayern scored early when Muller set up Lewandowski who calmly volleyed past Eintracht keeper Kevin Trapp on 15 minutes.

Lewandowski could have made it 2-0 ten minutes but his shot was denied by Trapp. Bayern did get the ball back in the net close to half time but the goal was disallowed because Thomas Muller was penalised for being offside despite the ball coming to him off an opponent.

Bayern were again close to a second on the hour mark when Mario Gotze struck the post, with the ball rebounding out to safety. A Bayern second looked certain and the home side got that when Gotze’s blocked shot fell kindly to Lewandowski who was able to put away his 16th goal of the season putting him just three behind Eintracht Frankfurts Alexander Meier.

Late in the match Bayern sealed the win with their third goal but it wasn’t Lewandowski hattrick, Thomas Muller was the scorer on this occasion, putting the ball in the net from a tight angle to seal off a brilliant home performance from the league leaders. The easy win will give Bayern confidence going into their Champions league quarter finals match with Porto in midweek.
