Lazio 4-0 Empoli

A great win for Lazio that sent them past Roma on the league table due to Roma’s 1-1 draw agaisnt Torina. Surely a great day for Lazio fans as Lazio opened up their account early on the fourth minute as Luis Cavanda’s cross was met by a charging Stefano Mauri at the near post.

Their second goal came in the 31st minute in similar fashion with a cross sent in from Cavanda, but this time the ball was met by veteran Miroslav Klose who redirected the ball to the far post.

Antonio Candreva made it three goals just before the half with a stunning strike from 25-yards out into the far right corner of the net. Absolutely nothing Empoli could have done to stop Lazio’s rate of attack.

Lazio sealed off a great win in the 53rd minute as Klose did well to steal the ball from a defender in the backfield and held the ball to push it in the path of Felipe Anderson, whos first attempt towards the far corner was denied by the keeper, but he was there to find the second chance off his own shot’s rebound to push the ball in the net.

With the win, Lazio move one point ahead of Roma and eight points ahead of fourth place Napoli, whom are in the race for a spot in the Champions League. Even though Lazio have lost five more than Roma have in the season, Roma has not done enough to secure wins in their matches as they have 12 draws throughout the season.

Lazio’s  next challenge comes at the hands of league leaders, Juventus. This match along with their last four against; Sampdoria, Roma, Napoli and Juventus will prove vital in their hopes of attaining a Champions League spot. Their recent form, which is a ten game unbeaten streak, shows that they have momentum at their back and have a great chance of accomplishing this feat.
