The second round of group matches for the “Group of Death” paired Germany against one of the best Africa’s best teams, Ghana. Germany came to the game with a confident 4-0 victory over Portugal. Ghana came to the match with a hunger for their first points in the tournament as they were beaten 2-1 by the United States of America.

We really didn’t see a great game during the first half. The first half consisted of both teams desperate to score. Both Ghana and Germany came close with chances but weren’t able to finish. It was a very slow first half which didn’t show the good qualities of either side.

The coaches must have had a great half time speech because both sides came out stronger and hungrier in the second half. The first substitution came on the 46th minute as Shkodran Mustafi came on for Jerome Boateng. At long last the first goal of the game saw Thamos Mullar putting in a spot on center where Mario Gotze headed the ball in to put the German’s up 1-0. The first substitution for the Ghana side saw Kevin Prince Boateng coming off for Jordan Pierre Ayew on 53rd minute. Germany’s lead only lasted a few minutes as Andre Ayew managed to score the equalizer from a great header. Ghana kept their hunger alive as SulleyMuntari assisted Asamoah Gyan in scoring the second goal to put Ghana in the lead.

We saw Miraslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger coming on for Mario Gotze and Sami Khedira to put in some fresh legs in the German attack. Klose is just a couple goals away from breaking the record of most FIFA World Cup goals scored from a single player. A historic moment was seen as Miraslav Klose tied up Ronaldo in most goals scored with his equalizer on the 71st minute. He just needs one more goal to be the leading scorer in World Cup history.

Christian Atsu came out to make space for Mubarak Wabaso while Emmanuel Badu replaced Mohammed Rabiu in the midfield in an attempt to score the winning goal to give the 3 points. With three minutes given for extra time, Sulley Muntari received the only yellow card of the match. Both teams walked of the field with 1 point. Germany is in the lead with 4 points, one ahead of the United States who plays against Portugal tomorrow. Ghana is now in third place in the notorious “Group of Death”. Who will survive the “Group of Death”?
