Following allegations of a hit-and-run in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the UFC has stripped Jon “Bones” Jones of his light heavyweight title and suspended the fighter indefinitely.

“He’s very disappointed. He’s upset. He wanted to go down as one of the greats or the greatest,” UFC president Dana White said of Jon Jones on Fox Sports Live. “He’s disappointed, but it is what it is. It is the decision we had to make.”

Jones reportedly turned himself in on Sunday after an off-duty officer identified him fleeing the scene of the 3-car accident he was involved in. The accident happened when Jones ran a red light and collided with another car. The driver of the car that was was hit first was a 25-year-old pregnant woman. She suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

The 27-year-old fighter was released on a $2,500 bond. An apologetic Jones took to Twitter on Tuesday night, sending his first tweet since the incident.

Daniel Cormier will take on Anthony Johnson on May 23 at UFC 187 in Las Vegas. The fight will be for the light heavyweight title.
