The Baltimore Ravens have parted ways with receiver-kick returner Jacoby Jones. Jones, who played a crucial role in the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory over the San Francisco 49ers, had a less than average 2014. He went on to catch just nine passes, dropped five passes, and muffed two punts. If the Ravens had decided to keep Jones, they would have owed him $2.5 million but avoided that by cutting him.

“We thank Jacoby for what he did for us,” coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “He was invaluable to our success. Opponents, especially on special teams, schemed to stop him. What a compliment to him.”

Jones was part of the three most important plays in the Ravens’ road to the Super Bowl. He was on the other end of a 70-yard touchdown pass with 44 seconds left in the Division Round against the Denver Broncos. That score went on to force overtime and led to the eventual 38-35 victory. In the Super Bowl, he scored on a 56-yard TD pass and ran a kickoff back 108 yards for a TD in the 34-31 victory.
At age 30, and after a very disappointing season, teams may not be eager to pick up the Super Bowl standout. If teams do show interest, expect it to be a one or two year deal ranging anywhere between $1.5-$5 million.
