Local product gets it done for the Senators. Ottawa native, Cody Ceci had a lot of friends and family in attendance, when he scored the game winner to put down the Blues. With 1:01 on the clock, Ceci beat ex-Senator goaltender, Brian Elliott, on a shot from the right point. Cody Ceci scored his first NHL goal, a game winner, and his smile stretched for miles.
In his third game since being called up from the clubs AHL affiliate, Binghamton, Cody seemed to enjoy the spotlight. “It was just a really special moment for me,” Ceci said. “To have my family and friends in the building, and for it to go in in overtime, and to win the game against a great team, it was pretty crazy the way things happened, and I’m happy the way they did.”
In a battle of the backups, Senator Robin Lehner got the best of Brian Elliott. Saving 30 of 32 shots, Lehner kept the Senators in the game long enough for Ceci to finish the job in overtime. Ottawa winger, Bobby Ryan continued to stay hot with a goal and an assist of his own.
Ottawa has a chance to close ground on the Atlantic Division leader, Boston Bruins, with games against New Jersey, Florida, and Phoenix coming up.
Things however look challenging for the Blues, as they face San Jose tonight, and Montreal Thursday.
