In a penalty ridden game, the Philadelphia Flyers pull off record breaking win.
The Flyers had won 1 game in the their past 19 attempts at Joe Louis Arena. Trailing the Detroit Red Wings in the third period, it seemed the proverbial elephant was still in the Flyers room. None of that, however mattered much, after the drop of the puck. The third period was all Philadelphia.
They dominated every aspect of the game that period. Changing a 3-2 deficit to a 6-3 victory. Netting goals from the stars on the team, Claud Giroux, Scott Hartnell, and Sean Couturier.
Jimmy Howard was solid in net for Detroit until the third. That’s when momentum shifted, and the Flyers scored 2 power play goals. Steve Mason on the other end, stood his ground, and held on during the third period. Red Wings head coach was not pleased after the lack of scoring in the third, and blowing their late lead.
Stern in his post game interview, his message was clear, “[We’ve] got to win games, that’s all there is to it.” He continued, “There’s an opportunity for every one of these guys right here to lead, to grab a bigger piece and do their part. I thought Tatar was a factor in tonight’s game. To me, that means you get more. If you’re not a factor, you get less, it’s real simple.”
Both teams are off today. Detroit travels to New Jersey tomorrow, then back home to face the struggling Florida Panthers. All while Philadelphia continues their road stint, with trips to Dallas, Ottawa, and Chicago.

Chicago (44pts) is on the road in Minnesota to take on the wild. A team that gives them problems, but Chicago should be able to get the job done.
San Jose (43pts) and Pittsburgh (39pts) battle in the Steel City in the game of the night. It’s a shame this isn’t the nationally televised game of the night.
Boston (38pts) travels north of the border to Montreal (37pts) in a battle for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
