Fans of C.D. Guadalajara will be excited to know that they can count on the services of Carlos Salcido once again. On May 20, 2014, the official announcement was made for the return of Carlos Arnoldo Salcido to El Rebano Sagrado (The Sacred Herd). The player has come full circle in his career and will most likely be retiring at his club of origin, which isn’t uncommon for a professional footballer. A versatile, experienced, and over all dynamic player such as Salcido could be exactly what Chivas needs, to pick their team back up and start making good impressions in the Liga MX. Carlos can play as a left back, who can join the attack at any time and provide crosses from the touch line or even blast powerful shots from outside the 18 yard box. He can also play as a center defensive mid, who can hold down the midfield in front of the center backs. He has the capability and skill set to apply pressure and even stop the opposing team’s attacking midfielders from creating chances. The more central role also allows him a more direct access to the goal should he decide to take a chance on goal himself.

Guadalajara fans have plenty to be excited about. A new manager, new transfer targets, and even the debut of young players such as Diego Hernandez in Chivas’ last bout of the season versus Monterrey. The transfer of Carlos Salcido is just one more thing to be excited about. A player of his caliber is bound to be a great role model for the younger and less experienced players of the Guadalajara side and will most likely be able to make the type of difference that the club has been looking for.

The Mexican left back and center defending midfielder has gone a long way in his career since first debuting for Guadalajara on July 22, 2001 against La Piedad. After his debut for Chivas, Carlos spent the next five years solidifying his status as one of the best defenders Mexico had to offer. After an excellent performance at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, there was much speculation as to whether he would end up playing in Europe or not. Finally, after being rumored to be linked with Arsenal and Liverpool, he signed for Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven. He remained at PSV, where he won two Eredivisie titles, until 2010 when he was transferred to Fullham for a 1.6 million Euro deal. After only 23 appearances for the English side and an unsettling robbery in his home, Salcido was transferred back to the Mexican league via a loan to Tigres. The loan later became a permanent deal and his stay at Tigres lasted until May 20, 2014 when he was transferred back to his original team Chivas.
