When the green flag drops at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 23 four drivers will make their 2014 NASCAR regular season debut for their new teams.
Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick basically switched rides—Newman now at Richard Childress Racing and Harvick at Stewart-Haas Racing. Kurt Busch upgrades from a single-car Furniture Row Racing team and joins Harvick at SHR, while Jeff Burton was let go from RCR to make room for Austin Dillon.
Everyone except for Burton made the Chase last year. Those three should make the postseason again. Not only are they with established organizations, they have the talent to make the most out of their equipment.
Keep an eye out for Busch. He helped rejuvenate Furniture Row in his two-year stint, making the 2013 Chase as a single-car team. Now he is at an organization that has better resources and features two other top-tier drivers in Harvick and Tony Stewart. Busch should be in position to win a few races, something he hasn’t done since 2011 with Penske.
Burton, on the other hand, will be the least to worry about throughout the season. He will only run part time, and more than likely won’t be a serious contender for a win with teammates Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex, Jr. the focus at Michael Waltrip Racing.
