Adam Dunn traded to Oakland

At the August 31st wavier trade deadline, the Oakland Athletics, who are fighting for the A.L. West title — or at least the top A.L. Wild Card spot, have acquired DH/1B Adam Dunn from the Chicago White Sox.

Dunn, 34, has 20 home runs this season and provides a lift that may just fill the offensive gap left by the departure of Yoenis Cespedes in the Jon Lester trade about a month ago. Dunn has 460 HR in his career with a .237 batting average and 1,153 RBI in his 14-year career. He originally had a limited no-trade clause, and Oakland was on his list, but Dunn waived it so he could join a contender for the first time in his 14-year career. Dunn will probably be the primary DH. He is eligible for the postseason since the trade was done on Sunday, before the deadline.

The White Sox got something out of this that they can use in the future. Minor Leauge pitcher Nolan Sanburn will soon plan trips to Chicago. The White Sox also received cash considerations. The A’s will pay half of Dunn’s remaining salary of $2.5 million.
