Three Strikes Thursday: Week 9

Welcome to week 9 of Three Strikes Thursday.

Strike One: Big Sexy Wants Back

A couple of weeks ago we talked about Bartolo Colon‘s classic home run at Petco Park. This time, however, it was Colon who talked and he seems to be eager to return to the Majors.

The recently turned 47 year old is currently under contract in the Mexican Baseball League, but would change that for the Mets in a heartbeat. “If it were up to me, I would retire with the Mets, I would like my career to end in New York”.

Could we see him back in Queens for 2021?

Strike Two: Bauer Does it Again

Scott Boras spoke his mind about the current Union-League negotiations. He went a little further, recommending his clients to refuse any offer from MLB. “Don’t bail owners, remember games can’t be played without you”. Trevor Bauer had some words for baseball’s most powerful agent.

The Reds’ pitcher made his opinion of Boras very clear. The agent refused to comment on Bauer’s statement.

Strike Three: Going Too Far

According to ESPN, the MLBPA is set to counter the Leauge’s offer from earlier in the week. The proposal would include a 100+ season, full prorated salaries, and a look at MLB finances. While players’ salaries have been a controversial topic, asking for more games could very well be the drop that spilled the glass.

Asking for more games is nothing but insanity, time is running short, and an NBA/NHL style season would serve better. Add to that the fact that adding more games increases the risk players and fans are running away from. Above all, this would not go well with the players whatsoever. Their relationship is trickier than going down the French Alps on a single ski and this won’t do it any favors.

If this goes out, negotiations could get stuck in neutral once again.

We’ll see you next week for another Three Strikes Thursday
