Juventus

Position: 1st/43 points

Goals For: 38

Goals Against: 9

Top Scorer: Carlos Tevez, 11 goals

Top Assists: Carlos Tevez

Juventus is the leader in the Serie A just above Roma who is in second with only one point behind. Juventus has lost only once this whole 2014/15 tournament and that was the first game of the Serie A, visiting Chievo Verona. Juventus is unbeatable at home. Juventus has a complete team from goalie all the way to their forwards. The italian veteran Gianluigi Buffon continues to show us class in the goal. The back line is led by Giorgio Chiellini and attacks great through their wings with former Patrice Evra and Stephan Lichtsteiner. Their strong and talented midfield is what keeps Juventus in the lead. With Andrea Pirlo’s experience, Paul Pogba’s defense, and Arturo Vidal’s creativity Juventus is a team that is enjoyable to watch. On top they have natural strikers, like Fernando Llorente and the Seria A leading scorer Carlos Tevez. Juventus is a team that will continue to grow throughout the season, and with no doubt will take the Serie A if everyone remains healthy.

AS Roma

Position: 2nd/40 points

Goals For: 31

Goals Against: 13

Top Scorer: Adem Ljajic

Top Assists: Francesco Totti

AS Roma is only 3 points behind the current leader, Juventus. It will be a tight race until the end of the season, to see who crowns the Seria A. They are the best home team in the Serie A and need to continue to do so and not let any point slip in their home stadium. Francesco Totti needs to continue to be a leader in the field and keep pushing his squad. It will be a tight race and we might see AS Roma surprise us. Currently, AS Roma qualifies for Champions League, but I am sure they want to win the league.

Lazio

Position: 3rd/31 points

Goals For: 33

Goals Against: 21

Top Scorer: Filip Djordjevic

Top Assists: Antonio Candreva

Lazio is not out of the competition to win the league, even though it seems like it will be a fight between Juventus and AS Roma. There is still plenty of games ahead, and Antonio Candreva needs to continue to be a playmaker for Lazio, current leader of assists in the Seria A. Candreva needs to stay healthy and continue to carry his team in his back.

Napoli

Position: 4th/30 points

Goals For: 33

Goals Against: 24

Top Scorer: Gonzalo Higuain & Jose Callejon both tied with 9 goals

Top Assists: Merek Hamsik

Napoli sitting currently in fourth and in Europa League positions need to step it up as team if they want to continue fighting for a league tittle. Higuain and Callejon, both cannot do everything for the team. They both have been doing their job and that is scoring goals. Both players have adapted to the league very quickly and will need help from teammates if next year they want to be part in the Champions League.

Sampdoria

Position: 5th/30 points

Goals For: 23

Goals Against: 17

Top Scorer: Citadin Eder

Top Assists: Angelo Palombo, Citadin Eder, and Lorenzo De Silvestri all tied with 2 assists

Sampdoria is currently 5th, but have the same points as Napoli who sit in 4th. Sampdoria is a team that has lost a lot of points by ending 14 games in a draw. With 9 draws at home, they have let go of a lot of valuable points that could have placed them higher. They need to do better at home in the second round and secure victories if they want to fight for a Champions League place. A league tittle seems quite impossible, but there is still a chance.

Fiorentina

Position: 6th/27 points

Goals For: 25

Goals Against: 17

Top Scorer: Khouma Babacar & Juan Cuadrado both tied with 4 goals

Top Assists: Juan Cuadrado

A team that is led by Juan Cuadrado

Fiotentina continue to be a mid table team, led by Juan Cuadrado. They will continue to fight and be a tough opponent, and would like to be part of the Europa or Champions League next year which currently sitting at 6th they are not in any.

Genoa

Position: 7th/27 points

Goals For: 24

Goals Against: 20

Top Scorer: Alessandro Matri

Top Assists: Alessandro Matri

Genoa has struggled at home during the fist round of the season. A team led by Alessandro Matri would need to step it up, and be a better home team in the next round. Genoa is a very inconsistent team who has had ups and down throughout the season. They managed to beat the current leaders at home back in October, they are capable to compete if they manage to stay consistent.

AC Milan

Position: 8th/26 points

Goals For: 27

Goals Against: 21

Top Scorer: Jeremy Menez

Top Assists: Ignazio Abate

Ac Milan is another inconsistent team that usually is a threat and is always in the top of the table. They seem to have trouble winning games away and has cost them valuable points. Hopefully, we see this team come strong in the second round since they are always a team that is in the top of the table.

Inter Milan

Position: 9th/25 points

Goals For: 29

Goals Against: 25

Top Scorer: Freddy Guarin

Top Assists: Mauro Icardi

Another team that is usually at the top of the table has been having troubles. Now with Lukas Podolski joining the squad, Roberto Mancini has added help to finish the season strong. Inter at home has let go of many valuable points that are hurting them from being at the top of the table.

Palermo

Position: 10th/25 points

Goals For: 30

Goals Against: 30

Top Scorer: Paulo Dybala

Top Assists: Paulo Dybala

In their first year back in Serie A, Palermo has been pretty average. They have found a bright spot in Paulo Dybala, who has drawn attention from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old Argentine striker has recorded 9 goals and 6 assists. Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has set the price tag at 40 million euros. Their largest margin of victory came in a 5-0 win over Cagliari but suffered their largest defeat of the season to Lazio, 4-0.

Sassuolo

Position: 11th/24 points

Goals For: 20

Goals Against: 23

Top Scorer: Simone Zaza

Top Assists: Domenico Berardi

Sassuolo barely survived regulation last season, ending in 17th place. This year has been a different story for them. Being in 11th place does not help them out as much and are only 15 points away from last place Cesena. Their biggest defeat, a 7-0 score against Inter Milan and have been able to stop AC Milan, Roma and Juventus all to either a tie or a loss.

Udinese

Position: 12th/23 points

Goals For: 21

Goals Against: 24

Top Scorer: Antonio Di Natale

Top Assists: Panagiotis Kone & Antonio Di Natale

Udinese is currently where they finished of last season right in the middle of the league table.  Their largest margin of victory so far this season was when they defeated Empoli 2-0 earlier this season. Antonio Di Natale has impressed this season with him placing himself currently in the top ten scorers so far this season. If the rest of the club does not step it up, Udinese will not climb higher on the league table.

Verona

Position: 13th/21 points

Goals For: 21

Goals Against: 28

Top Scorer: Nicolas Lopez

Top Assists: Lazaros Christodoulopoulos

Last season Hellas Verona finished at the middle of the table and so far they sit three places behind 10th place. With the addition of mexican defender, Rafael Marquez to the squad, you would hope that they would be able to be a bit higher but Marquez is not the player he used to be when he was with Barcelona. They only have four wins under their belt and their biggest defeat was to Napoli on a 6-2 score.

Torino

Position: 14/19 points

Goals For: 13

Goals Against: 19

Top Scorer: Kamil Glik

Top Assists: Bruno Peres

Having sold their star striker, Ciro Immobile to Borussia Dortmund in the summer,  Torino dropped significantly on the league table so far this season. Going from finishing seventh place last season to being only four points from being in the relegation zone. Fans expect more from their club as Torino has the capabilitity to be much higher on the table.

Empoli

Position: 15th/18 points

Goals For: 17

Goals Against: 23

Top Scorer: Lorenzo Tonelli

Top Assists: Mirko Valdifiori

This is Empoli’s first time back in the Serie A since the 2007/08 season and fell just one point shy from not falling into regulation that year. This year they sit in 15th place and just nine points ahead of last place Cesena. With their biggest defeat against 18th place Cagliari, Empoli will have to step it up so they don’t fall even further down on the table.

Chievo Verona

Position: 16th/18 points

Goals For: 13

Goals Against: 20

Top Scorer: Alberto Paloschi

Top Assists: Ervin Zukanovic, Perparim Hetemaj, and Mariano Izco, all tied with 2 assists

The other team that barely survived regulation last season with four points ahead of Catania last season, Chievo Verona seems to struggle this season as well to maintain their hopes of staying in the Serie A league. Alberto Paloschi has been phenomenal for the team, being able to get four goals in the net this season but it does not seem to be enough for the team as they are fighting for their hopes of staying in Serie A. Only time will tell where Chievo Verona will be at the end of the table.

Atalanta

Position: 17th/17 points

Goals For: 14

Goals Against: 24

Top Scorer: Maximiliano Moralez

Top Assists: Luca Cigarini & Cristian Raimondi both tied with 2 assists

Being merely one loss away from dropping down to the relegation zone should have the club in a desperate mood for improvement. Atalanta is yet another club that has started the season on a bad note as they finished last season on a higher position on the league table. Atalanta is one the Serie A’s “midtable” clubs as they always find it difficult to place any higher than in the middle of the table.

Cagliari

Position: 18th/15 points

Goals For: 23

Goals Against: 25

Top Scorer: Marco Sau & Albin Ekdal both tied with 4 goals

Top Assists: Marco Sau, Andrea Cossu, Victor Ibarbo, Luca Rossettini, and Antonio Balzano, all tied with 2 assists.

Cagliari has only three wins this season thus far those being against last place Cesena, Empoli and an incredible 4-0 shot out to Inter Milan. Last season they finished in 15th place but this season with only 15 points seem to struggle to stay away from regulation. With only three wins this season, they will have to fight to stay in the Serie A league and not fall into the Serie B.

Parma

Position: 19th/9 points

Goals For: 18

Goals Against: 39

Top Scorer: Antonio Cassano

Top Assists: Massimo Coda

Finishing in sixth place last season, it seems like Parma is struggling to stay in the Serie A as well. Conceding 39 goals in just the first 18 games of the season is a lot. That’s 7 goals less than what they conceded in the whole season. Their biggest defeat was against Juventus back in early November in which they outscored Parma 7-0. Parma will not survive if they continue to give away points and will fall to the Serie B league for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

image_gallery (14)

Cesena

Position: 20th/9 points

Goals For: 15

Goals Against: 36

Top Scorer: Gregoire Defrel

Top Assists: Many players with one assist

Cesena is back in the Serie A for the first time since the 2011/12 season and are not doing their best to stay alive. With only 9 points in the table they are for sure not going to last any much longer. With only one win over 19th place Parma in the beginning of the season, the other points have come of ties. Their biggest defeat was against Napoli on a 4-1 score and with Cagliari up a couple points, they still have a shot. But if they continue in their poor form, they will fall back to the Serie B.
