Giants Give Up Hope, Call Up Prospects

The San Francisco Giants are way behind in the Wild Card race in early September. They have given up all postseason hopes and called up a bunch of prospects to start rebuilding. While the excitement of getting back into the playoffs is very much gone, some of their call ups are an exciting promise for them. Take a look at what the Giants brought up to the big leagues.

Mauricio Dubon

When San Francisco traded Drew Pomeranz to Milwaukee, this is what they got in return. So far, the move has paid off as the Honduran infielder has done well in his arrival. He has 4 hits, a home run, and 4 RBI in five games played. His usual high batting average took some time to show up, but it eventually did. He has shown his craft in the infield with a few web gems at the second bag.

Expect him to settle into second base and eventually become an everyday player once adjusted to playing at the MLB level. He will do well playing alongside childhood hero Brandon Crawford.

Aramis Garcia

Brandon Belt still has a few years left on his contract. Unless he performs exceptionally well, new ownership might be ready to dispose of his services as soon as the day comes. In the meantime, fans in San Francisco will get a shot at seeing a potential first baseman in action.

Garcia has already made an appearance on the big league roster, playing 18 games for the Giants last season. Last year’s numbers were much better, though, as he is hitting a mere .130 with 12 strikeouts over 26 plate appearances. There’s a silver lining to this move. Having him on the roster will give Belt and Buster Posey a chance to rest as he can also handle himself behind the plate. Both players have dealt with injuries all season long.

Shaun Anderson

This move made it into the article not because of its quality but because it is a sign of things to come. Anderson spent the last three seasons playing in the minors and his numbers were decent enough. He got called to the big team once, things didn’t go very well. He was sent back down to Sacramento.

Back with the Sacramento River Cats, his numbers improved considerably, He went from a 5.28 ERA to 3.76 with a 1.278 WHIP. Those numbers are good enough for the minors, but his MLB ERA still sits around five. Expect blown leads and middle inning catastrophes if he’s on the mound.

Don’t Expect A Happy Ending For The Giants

The San Francisco Giants will once again have a rough month of September. Bruce Bochy is leaving and Madison Bumgarner might be gone as well. It was only a matter of time before they gave up the fight after a disappointing August. These call-ups are symptomatic of worse things to come for the orange and black in 2019.
