It wasn’t the best week for the Golden State Warriors, but it just means that a loss was added to their record, which is still at a league-best 32-6. Stephen Curry led the Warriors to a comfortable victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, and it was Curry who came up big again, with 32 points to beat the Miami Heat on Wednesday. Their loss came at the expense of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, losing only their 6th game of the season. But the Dubs once again proved their resiliency and bounced back with a blowout win over the Rockets on Saturday, thanks to Klay Thompson’s outstanding defense on James Harden.
Oklahoma City seems to be getting their groove back, with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook finally looking more like themselves. Besides their loss against the Rockets this week, the Thunder beat the Warriors on Friday night and followed up on Sunday with a confident win over the Orlando Magic, scoring an insane 79 points in the first half. By ending the week with 2 wins, the Thunder now sit at .500 for the first time this season and appear to be dangerous sleepers in the race to the playoffs.
Normally, my nod for player of the week would go to a player who contributed a lot in the success of his team, which usually happens to be a winning one. However, Mo Williams scored 50 points the fastest this week in a win over the Indiana Pacers. He also scored 27 in a loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday, and he cooled down with 13 points and 7 assists in a win over the Nuggets. Two out of three isn’t bad at all, especially if you score 50 and you’re on one of the worst team in the West.
The dud of the week? It would definitely have to be the Los Angeles Lakers, who were defeated by the Heat on Tuesday, the Cavs on Thursday, and the Jazz on Friday. This isn’t unexpected news, and it isn’t the best time to be representing purple and gold right now. Kobe Bryant can only do so much, and there really isn’t too much talent on the roster.
