The Biggest Free Agent Contract In American History

Manny Machado has reached a deal with the San Diego Padres this Tuesday,  as first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan

The Deal

Machado comes from a spectacular season after being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Florida native batted for an average of .293, 37 homers and, 107 RBI. He also had the ninth highest WAR among the Dodgers (2.8) despite only playing 66 regular season games with the organization. He was key to Los Angeles’ postseason run.

What’s Next?

The Padres will bring another experienced infielder as he will play along with first baseman Eric Hosmer, who signed last offseason. This also strengthens the team foundation as his playoff experience and attitude will help along the way. However, he might have to go through a few disappointing seasons with the Padres as the rest of the team is not quite ready yet to make a postseason push.

Machado will most likely play third as Luis Urias starts at shortstop and  Fernando Tatis Jr. could take over at shortstop duties once he is called up.
