Things were about to get tougher for Chivas just before the 70th minute. Kashima was awarded a penalty as a player went down inside the box. It was a questionable call but it was penalty kick nonetheless as Serginho was ready to take the kick. The Brazilian striker converted without a problem to put his team up 2-1. Concentration issues and fatigue were evident for Chivas as they could not keep up with a team that was not all that skilled.  The Asian squad added one more goal to their lead with a goal by Hiroki Abe at the 84th minute. Leo Silva then scored for Chivas on aggregate getting Guadalajara closer to a tie. Unfortunately for the Mexican squad, time was not enough as the match was over before they could level the scoreboard.
