Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks

NLDS Game 1

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Colorado Rockies to earn the right to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. Game 1 of that series was played on Friday night in Los Angeles.

Justin Turner Provides a Spark

Justin Turner had himself a great day, going 3 for 4 with a home run and 5 RBI. Turner hit a three run home run in the first inning to give Clayton Kershaw an early lead. Later in the game, Turner would hit RBI singles in the 4th and 8th innings. The whole Dodgers’ team was clicking on the offensive end last night.

The first 5 batters got on base in the bottom of the first for the Dodgers. The Dodgers scored 4 runs in the first inning and would not let up.

Arizona’s Postseason Pitching Woes Continue

After being ranked in the top 5 in team era and pitching, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitching staff has been struggling lately. The Pitching staff has allowed 8 runs against the Rockies and 9 last night. Starting pitchers Zack Greinke and Taijuan Walker have struggled so far this Postseason.

The Diamondbacks got to Kershaw

Despite loosing Game 1, the one positive the DBacks can take into Game 2 is their hitting. Being down 4-0 and facing Clayton Kershaw is a big challenege, but the Diamondbacks got to him  last night. The Diamondbacks hit four home runs against Kershaw last night and really gave him a challenge. Kershaw went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing, 4 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7.

Whats Next for the Series?

The Dodgers are looking to take a 2-0 lead in the series on Saturday to give themselves the inside track to get to the NLCS. So Game 2 is a must win for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The pitching matchup for Game 2 is Robbie Ray (15-5, 2.89 ERA) vs. Rich Hill (12-8, 3.32 ERA). Ray pitched in the Wild Card going 3 and 1/3 innings allowing one run and striking out 3.
