Thursday NHL One-Liners

What an action packed night Wednesday was. With only three games on the schedule, each game needed overtime, and the Sabres/Canadiens game was decided by a shootout.

Here’s a few things to keep in mind heading into Thursday night.

  • Chicago Blackhawks winger, Patrick Sharp, will be out for 3-4 weeks after suffering a right leg injury during Tuesday nights 5-0 win.
  • The Minnesota Wild will be without star forward, Zach Parise for a few days. Parise suffered an concussion in Monday nights loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

  • The Pittsburgh Penguins locked up goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to the long term yesterday, with a 4-year/$23 million contract. Fleury is 7-2-0 this season with a 1.89 goals-against average, .931 save percentage, and has the Penguins atop the Eastern Conference.

  • Anaheim added another player to their injury list, this time it’s back up goalie John Gibson. Gibson is expected to miss six weeks with a groin injury.  The Ducks recalled Igor Bobkov from their AHL affiliate.

  • The NHL suspended Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson Wednesday for his illegal check to the head of Carolina forward Jiri Tlusty‘s head. The suspension will cost Johnson $70,277.C

  • Chicago unveiled their jerseys for the 2015 Winter Classic in Washington D.C. yesterday.

  • Gordie Howe‘s family says the hockey Hall of Famer who had a stroke last month has been ”recovering at a remarkable rate” over the past week. ”Mr. Hockey” set NHL marks with 801 goals and 1,850 points, that held up until Wayne Gretzky surpassed him in the record book.
