The Korean Zombie Walks

Chan Sung Jung, affectionately and deservedly known as The Korean Zombie, will be taking a 2 year hiatus from MMA and the UFC. The 27 year old South Korean will be heading home to fulfill his duty, as all able bodied men are required, to the South Korean military.

From UFC.com: “All Korean men, if physically capable, are supposed to serve in the military,” Jung told UFC.com through translator / manager Brian Rhee. “So, no, it wasn’t a surprise. I was hoping to delay it a little bit longer, so I could get in one more fight and also because my wife and I are expecting our first child this week. But, I’m proud to do my duty.”

Jung’s last fight in The Octagon was all the way back in August of 2013 where he suffered a dislocated shoulder during his Featherweight Title match with Jose Aldo. He re-injured the same shoulder and was forced out of his UFC Fight Night 53 return back on October 4th.

I, for one, am sad that we won’t get to see Jung fight again for another two years. I know that we all will be anxiously awaiting his return.
