Q&A With Middleweight Boxer Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr.

Promising middleweight Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr. (21-0, 11 KOs) fought last night in what was his first bout with trainer Eric Brown. Centeno took on Gerardo Ibarra (14-1, 8 KOs) of Houston at Fantasy Springs Casino in Coachella, CA, presented by Golden Boy Promotions. Although the fight went all 10 rounds, Centeno won easily with the judges scoring the bout at 99-91 twice and 100-90. Before keeping his perfect record in tact, Centeno was able to answer a few simple questions for us.

Q&A done by Javier Monroy Galindo (Follow him on Twitter: @JavierMG93)

Javier: Hugo, how were you introduced to boxing?

Hugo Centeno: I used to watch it as a  kid and my dad used to box.

J: How do you prepare mentally before a fight?

HC: I stay positive and keep myself calm and controlled. I remind myself, I’ve done this a million times.

J: What’s it like training at the Wild Card Gym? (Hollywood, CA)

HC: It feels great to be surrounded by so much world class talent.

J: Who were your favorite boxers growing up?

HC: I was always a big fan of De La Hoya, Morrales and Corral.

J: What activities do you enjoy when you’re not training or boxing?

HC: I like watching movies. As well as spending time with friends and family.

J: What’s your favorite movie? Favorite song?

HC: I would have to say Dumb and Dumber and no favorite song. Too much good music to just have one favorite.

J: Favorite sports teams?

HC: I’m a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Kings.

J: What are you most proud of?

HC: My career.

J: Last question. What message would you give to young, upcoming athletes?

HC: Stick to what you love to do, even when it gets tough. Push through it!

We would love to thank Hugo Centeno Jr. for this opportunity and a huge thank you to Javier for setting up the Q&A!
