Mexico Rolls Over Cuba In Gold Cup Opener

The Mexican National Soccer Team rolled over Cuba in a 7-0 win at the Rose Bowl to begin their 2019 Gold up.

First Half

Mexico took control of the pace of play from the get-go and it took them almost no time to score. Uriel Antuna was quick to send in a rebound off the far post to the back of the net to El Tri the lead after just two minutes of play. The Mexican XI had success in the early goings playing wide as Raul Jimenez found a couple of chances off crosses to the box.

The Mexican side struck again at the half-hour mark to widen their lead. Raul Jimenez took advantage of a loose ball inside the box to score the second goal for his team.

Guillermo Ochoa had little trouble on goal as the Cuban squad was forced to play defense for the better part of the first 45.

Diego Reyes made it three for Mexico at the 37th as he found the back of the net assisted by a rebound off a shot by Jimenez.

The Aztec squad added one more to the tally before the end of the half as Antuna scored his second goal of the game at the 43rd minute.

Both teams headed for the showers with the score 4-0.

Second Half

Not much changed during the opening minutes of the second half. Mexico still controlled ball possession and the pace of play. Despite Mexico’s dominance of the match, a Cuban player made it to the highlights. Goalkeeper Sandy Sanchez made a few saves to stop the bleeding for Cuba.

Mexico scored once again over the hour mark. Wolves’ Jimenez scored at the 64th minute. He was assisted by a superb through ball by Luis Rodriguez.

Goals kept piling up for Mexico as Alexis Vega scored off the bench at the 74th minute.

Antuna finished off his hat trick at the 80th minute to put El Tri up by a touchdown and an extra point.

Cuba was no match for Mexico at the end of 90 minutes, ending the match at 7-0.
