Kevin Love Opts Out of Deal With Cavs

Cavs power forward Kevin Love could be a free agent this summer, or some believe Cleveland will sign-and-trade the All-Star. Reuters

After one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers, forward Kevin Love has opted out of the final year of his contract. This comes less than two weeks after the Cavs lost in the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors.

Love’s season ended in the first round of the playoffs against the Boston Celtics when he suffered a shoulder injury. He was due to make $16.7 million in his final year but would rather test free agency after an inconsistent and drama filled season. Love found himself with the Cavs after the Minnesota Timberwolves traded him in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and a 2016 first-round pick.

Despite him opting out, the Cavs are prepared to re-sign the 26-year old. The Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers are also rumored to be ready to make a run at Love, who averaged 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds last season. It was also the first time he was on a playoff team.
