2017 NFL Disappointments

Week seven just ended as the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football, here are the biggest disappointments in the 2017 NFL Season.

ATLANTA FALCONS PASSING OFFENSE

The Atlanta Falcons offense was prolific in 2016, this season they have struggled passing the football. Despite being 6th in passing yards, Matt Ryan has thrown 7 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. Julio Jones has caught just one touchdown this season, which he caught against the Patriots this past Sunday night. There are some possible reasons as to why they are struggling. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan left to coach the 49ers, and also a possible Super Bowl hangover. Atlanta still has 10 games to go to fix their issues, if they want to make the playoffs they need to work on this issue.

Despite a busy offseason including picking three players in the first round, the Cleveland Browns are now sitting at 0-7. Their quarterbacks have struggled this season as they have thrown 7 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.  They rank dead last in points scores and 24th in offensive yards. Defensively they are 25th in points allowed, even though they rank 9th in total yards allowed. The Browns appear to be headed towards another low win season (possibly 0-16) with no end to the misery in sight. Cleveland’s offseason gave them talent, but they cannot get it together.

NEW YORK GIANTS

Last year the Giants ranked 2nd in points allowed and 10th in total yards on defense, this year they are ranked 17th in points allowed and 27th in total yards. They have struggled on offense as well, ranking 30th in points and 27th in yards. Eli Manning has been facing pressure from opponents’ defenses, he has been sacked 17 times and his receivers are hurt. New York’s follow up to a playoff appearance in 2016 has been tough as they now hold a record of 1-6. Injuries have plagued this team, there could be wholesale changes to the Giants in 2018.

JOE FLACCO

Injuries could play a part is his poor play, but his numbers have not been good. He has thrown 5 touchdowns and 8 interceptions this season. Joe has only gone over 200 yards a game 3 out of 7 games this season. He has also failed to throw a touchdown in 3 games this season. His worst performance is arguably the London game against the Jaguars, he threw for just 28 yards and 2 interceptions. Flacco has to improve on his game,  The Baltimore Ravens are 3-4, it is not all on him, but his poor outings have not helped.
